This course was long per post race measurement -- 330 yards supposedly per some accounts and 1/4 per others .... It was not the "normal" course run at Haslett.
"The course ran a start loop, then after a mile went thru a woods and cut around some other school property, then across the football field, then basically the first loop backwards. ... After the meet with times as they were John Rowan, Haslett Coach, said he remeasured the course and was now 1/4 mile long." Jim Murray of CCIR via email in 2004
It was the first ever girls cross country championship conducted by the MHSAA and so it was all divisions combined.
Reports are that it was an unseasonably hot day with sharp turns and some kids actually were unable to avoid a tree on a downhill slope due to the course design.
