The Bandon XC Invitational will be held at Bullards Beach State Park, just off of Highway 101, north of Bandon, OR. Our course will open at 2:00 p.m. No one will be allowed on the trails of the course after 3:30 so get there early. You may not be on the trails during a race or your team may be disqualified for interference. Don't be late!
We plan on having four races: 3000M Middle School Girls (3:30), 3000M Middle School Boys (4:00), 5000M Girl’s Varsity (4:30), 5000 M Boys Varsity (5:10). TRAFFIC IS A LITTLE SNARLED NEAR BANDON--IF YOU GET STUCK IN TRAFFIC AND YOU ARE RUNNING LATE ANYWAY CALL THE RACE DIRECTOR (chuck mclauchlin 541-290-0164). We might have to run 15 minutes late for everything if our helpers get stuck in traffic too. The races will be varsity/junior varsity combined so enter all of your athletes in their respective race.. The top seven for each school will factor into the scoring, as usual. Team plaques will be awarded following the last high school race to the top 2 teams in each race. Top 7 finishers in each high school and middle school race will receive medals.
The middle school course is unchanged from previous years. The high school course has changed. The start and finish will be the same for all races. We will be running on trails in picnic area and the northern part of the campground area this year for the first 2 miles and the picnic area trails at the finish. The finish will be the same as years past. Maps will be mailed out and will be available in your race packet. Spectators can still view runners near the start finish area but are asked to stay out of the campground area. Split times will be given at mile 1 which is very near the start this year. At different times during the course runners will be on grass or on a short chip trail, woodland trails, paved foot path, and some paved road (hay bales are always an option). It is an all terrain course, so come prepared for everything! Spikes or no spikes, its up to you. You might decide after you preview the course. We suggest your athletes come already dressed in uniform for the race. There are restrooms at the day use area of Bullards Park, but no showers. There is no public swimming in the river, it is dangerous, and we ask that you keep your athletes out of the water and off the road as much as possible. Fruit and Water will be available after the race.
Please enter the names of all athletes who may enter this meet on athletic.net by Friday, September 16th. We are using Excel Meet manager and entering athlete names into our computer prior to the race will make it easier for us to prepare race numbers prior to the event and get results out faster after the race. You may, of course, add or delete athletes the day of the meet. If you need more information you may contact me at the addresses below. Good luck and we’ll see you on September 20th.
Extra maps and registration changes will be at the gazebo near the start/finish area across from the boat ramp. Runner Tags will be included in your packet also. Please make sure runners have this pinned to the front of their shirt. You may add runners on race day but please do so as soon as you arrive at the gazebo and find the scorer and their computer.
Please park your bus at the far rest room area at the west end of Bullards Beach State Park past the horse camp area after dropping off runners at the staging areas. You will be directed where to park. You will be given your packet as you arrive by the flagpole at the park. If you have middle school athletes with you, make sure you get the packet for their school too. You will be directed specifically where to park when you come into Bullards Beach State Park. Remind your runners to be cautious on the road and stay off of it as much as possible. The road and pathways are open to the public be careful.
