General Usage

Q: Who posts all the results found on Athletic.net?

Each school is responsible for posting and verifying their own results on the site.  If you have a contact at a school not currently posting marks on the site, maybe you could drop them a line and say you'd enjoy seeing their results on the site.  If a school has posted results in the past, but has not entered new results, perhaps they have not gotten to it yet.

The only exception is if a meet uses a HyTek compatible meet management software.  All the results from the meet can be uploaded at once.  So, in that case, the host school uploads the results for several schools at once.

Q: Why are my marks not posted on the website? (or incorrect?)

Each school is responsible for posting and verifying their own results to Athletic.net.  Sometimes it takes a few days for coaches to get full results posted to the site. If you are an athlete and don't see your marks, maybe you could talk to your coach(es) and let them know how you enjoy seeing your teams results on the site.

Q: Do I need to have an account to browse Athletic.net?

No! You do not need an account to browse Athletic.net. You only need an account if you wish to enter results, or take advantage of the online meet registration/hosting portion of the site.

Q: How do I sign up for an account?

First, find your school homepage on Athletic.net. Next, click on the 'Sign up here' link and follow the directions if you are a coach, or are authorized by a coach to enter results for your school.

Q: What is FAT and HT? How are they calculated, and what are the significances of them?

Please see our discussion on the use of FAT and Hand Times on Athletic.net.

Q: Are the results on this website official?

Only when an entire meet is uploaded from HyTek. Otherwise, results are entered by each team and we try our hardest to maintain tight control over the quality of marks entered into the site. Collectively the results give you a good picture of what is going on.

Q: What does the (xx|xx) mean on some webpages on Athletic.net?

This is used to signify either (Athletes | Total number of events entered) or (Number of schools in meet | Number of schools with results). It is mainly intended to give the user a quick overview of the amount of meet entries or results for a certain meet.

Q: How do I set Athletic.net to be my homepage?

In Internet Explorer, got to the Tools menu->Internet Options->General Tab. In the address box, type http://www.athletic.net, and hit OK.

Q: I work for a newspaper, can I use the results found here?

Yes, you may use the results, and we would be glad to assist you by providing a format that you can easily copy. We would appreciate acknowledgment of www.Athletic.net as the source.

Q: I work for a newspaper and could use some custom result pages, can you do that?

Yes! Please contact us using the feedback form, and let us know what schools you would like in the report. Chances are if you need the report, other users would benefit from it also.

Q: What are cookies?

Cookies allow the site to remember when a user has signed onto the site, and grant them the additional access that they desire. If you have software on your computer blocking cookies, you will not be able to successfully sign on as a coach.

Q: What are the 'c' and 'a' found after some marks there for?

They are there to denote that the mark has been converted, or was a FAT time.  Please see our discussion on the use of FAT and Hand Times on Athletic.net for further information about this process.

Q: Can only official coaches enter meet/athlete results?

The site has many helpful tools for coaches, so I like coaches to be aware of the site and to use it, but I have no problem with an assistant, parent, or careful athlete entering the teams results, as long as the coach is OK with it.

Coach Questions

Q: How do I enter a Schedule/Calendar for my school?

  1. Click on “Edit Calendar” from the Coaches Tool Bar on your school home page.
  2. Below the list of meets currently on your calendar, select the date of the new meet and click on 'Continue'.
  3. Select the state/region the meet will be held in, and click 'Next'.
  4. If you see the meet in the list, select it by clicking on 'Select', otherwise click on 'Register a new meet'
  5. If you chose a pre-created meet, select whether or not you are hosting the meet and hit 'Save' to add it to your calendar.
  6. If you are the first to create this meet, enter the title, location, time, and select (yes/no) if you are hosting the meet or not. Click on 'Save'
  7. Repeat for additional meets.
  8. Verify on the 'Edit Calendar' page that all your meets have been entered correctly.  If you see a mistake, use the Edit button next to the meet to make corrections.

If you see the correct meet already on the list of meets held that day, but the date/time/location/title is wrong, go ahead and select it anyways. Then, inform us of the discrepancy using the feedback form. Please include the meet title, location, date, and the corrected information and we will be able to correct it for everyone with that meet on their calendar.
If you change the information for an already created meet, it will only change that information for your school, so it is important to leave the information as it is and contact us.

Q: Who can view the roster/entries I've made for my school online?

There are only two groups of people that can see the online entries you have made:

  • The coach(es) for your school that made the entries
  • The coach(es) at the host school that view the entries online

There are only two groups of people that can view the student roster you have entered online:

  • The coach(es) from your school that have access to Athletic.net
  • If you enter a meet using the 'Roster Only' method, then the host school coach(es) may see the roster as well.

Note that the general public can NOT view either your roster or entries you have made online.  This is just like traditional entries you would have used.

Q: How do I manually enter results for my athletes?

  1. Click “Enter Meet Results” from the above Coaches Tools
  2. Select the meet* and “Boys or Girls” from the drop-down menus near the top of the page.
  3. Select an event to enter results.
  4. In the “Edit/Add Results” box, begin typing the last name of an athlete, type result and place.
  5. Hit “Add”
  6. Repeat for other events.

* You will only be able to select meets that have already happened to enter results to.  Future meets will not show up in the list until they have happened.

NOTE:  If the meet was timed using Fully Automatic Timing, include an “a” after the time.  Also, view tips near the bottom of the 'Enter Meet Results' page to speed up making manual entries.

Q: How do I use the track meet hosting feature of the website? How much time will I save?

Directions to use the track meet hosting portion of Athletic.net:
  1. Enter your schedule including your home/host meets.
  2. Click on the 'meet registrations' link from your school homepage.
  3. Click on the meet you want to view registrations for.
  4. In the 'Pre-Meet Downloads' area, download the the HyTek roster/entries text file, and save it to your hard drive in a location you can find again.
  5. Follow the instructions below to enter the roster/entries into HyTek.

To Import Entries into HyTek from Athletic.net

  1. Get your HyTek meet file ready by going to File – Purge – Remove Data Selectively.
  2. Click “Teams”, OK, OK, OK.
  3. Log on to Athletic.net and select “Meet Registration” from the Coaches Tools.
  4. Under “Manage a Home Meet”, select the meet.
  5. Under “Pre-Meet Downloads”, click “HyTek Roster/Entries” next to Download.
  6. Save the “MeetEntries” file to your computer.
  7. In HyTek, click File – Import – Semi Colon Delimited Roster/Entries
  8. Select the “MeetEntries” data file, click Open.
  9. The entries will download into HyTek.  If there are any problems, a list will pop up.  Enter those by hand.

You can expect to save monumental amounts of time by using this feature. Since visiting coaches no longer have to write out their entire roster and find seed marks for each athlete, and the hosting schools no longer have to compile these lists by hand into Hy-Tek, a huge amount of time can be saved. Imagine doing all of your meet entries in 5 minutes?  The import only takes about 10 seconds. If you have any further questions about this feature, please contact us using the feedback form.

(Note: On the meet registration page in the 'Manage a Home Meet' column, the (xx|xx) means (# of schools signed up for this meet | # of schools with online entries ready) )

Q: What happens if I make a mistake while entering the calendar/athletes/registration/results?

Often you can delete the entry that is in error and try again. If you come across an error you cannot solve yourself, please contact us using the feedback form with the problem, and we will help you fix it.

Q: What happens if one school has the wrong date for a meet?

Hopefully they will notice that they are one of the only schools signed up for that date. The easiest fix is for them to delete the wrong date from their calendar, and then select the existing meet from the correct date. The first school to create a meet sets both the date and name of the meet. All schools after that have the option to select that meet. If a problem does arise, please contact us using the feedback form to get it sorted out.

Q: Do we have to have HyTek to use the Online Meet Registration feature?

No, you do not have to have HyTek to utilize the Online meet registration feature.  You can still use Athletic.net to help organize your meet entries.

You can start by having your visiting teams make their entries online.  Once all the entries have been made, you may view and print a sheet with all the entries sorted by event, with their seed marks included.  You can then use this sheet to help generate your heat sheets.  If you have schools that did not make entries online, you will have to combine their entries by hand with the sheet printed from Athletic.net.

Q: How do I enter an athletes' best time when registering for a meet?

Currently, the site is set up to automatically include seed times based on the athlete's PR from previous meets. So for the first meet of the season, they would have no seed time. While this is good for most of the year, I do plan to try to add the option for "override" seed times on the meet entry page. (where there currently is none) That way a coach can easily add in seed times. The hosting coach will then have the option to accept or ignore the override seed times.

Q: Can my coaching staff share my account?

Every coach on you team may sign up for their own account, so you do not need to share usernames and passwords.

Q: Is it true that I can track ALL of my athletes on Athletic.net, and not just the elite ones?

Yes! Athletic.net allows coaches to track every athlete they have. With the addition of the Hy-Tek result uploading feature this year, it will be even easier to track your athletes progress through the season.

Q: Why do I need to activate my account using the phone?

In order to ensure the high quality of statistics that we seek to deliver, we have stringent criteria on who has access to edit the information on the website. We use phone verification as another means to ensure high quality, and to protect the site from malicious uses.

Meet Hosting

Q: Do we have to have HyTek to use the Online Meet Registration feature?

No, you do not have to have HyTek to utilize the Online meet registration feature.  You can still use Athletic.net to help organize your meet entries.

You can start by having your visiting teams make their entries online.  Once all the entries have been made, you may view and print a sheet with all the entries sorted by event, with their seed marks included.  You can then use this sheet to help generate your heat sheets.  If you have schools that did not make entries online, you will have to combine their entries by hand with the sheet printed from Athletic.net.

Q: Can a host school use both Athletic.net entries and manually entered entries in Hy-Tek?

Yes. You may enter some schools manually, and import the rest from Athletic.net.

Note: If you wish to import an new copy of the meet entries from Athletic.net, do not purge all the school data, but simply delete the schools that have entries on Athletic.net. When you download the new entries from the website, those schools will be automatically re-created in HyTek.

Please note that until we have time to further assess the options, results will only be imported back onto Athletic.net automatically if both the School Name, and the Athlete Name match the website version. Any athlete not appearing on the website will not be created automatically. This is to ensure that we don't get spelling variations added on accident.

The import will work fine if an athlete is added to an event at the meet, assuming that they exist on the website. If they do not, the import will skip them.

Meet importing is still undergoing refinement, so we welcome your feedback.

Q: Can I create my meet entries online even if the host team does not use Athletic.net?

Yes! You may use Athletic.net to generate your entries even if the host school does not use Athletic.net to generate their final registrations. The website allows you print out a faxable form showing all of your entries in an organized manner.

Q: Does Athletic.net support any other track meet hosting software?

This site creates a HyTek compatible entry file.  It is reported that Easy Meet Manager by GoEasyWare works with the same entry file.

Q: I’m having trouble logging in, what do I do?

If you do not remember your password, click here to reset it.  For other problems, use the feedback form and tell us what you have tried.

Q: When I return to Athletic.net, I am no longer logged in. How do I fix this?

When you sign in, check the ‘Remember Me’ box before you hit OK. This will store a cookie on your computer that only this website can read. It will automatically log you back in when you return.

Result Posting

Q: Who posts all the results found on Athletic.net?

Each school is responsible for posting and verifying their own results on the site.  If you have a contact at a school not currently posting marks on the site, maybe you could drop them a line and say you'd enjoy seeing their results on the site.  If a school has posted results in the past, but has not entered new results, perhaps they have not gotten to it yet.

Q: What are the 'c' and 'a' found after some marks there for?

They are there to denote that the mark has been converted, or was a FAT time.  Please see our discussion on the use of FAT and Hand Times on Athletic.net for further information about this process.

Q: How can I enter my School Records?

  1. For each year* that a record was made, add a Meet to your calendar called 'Stats' (unless you also know the date/title of the meet)
  2. Using the 'Edit meet Results' page, select those meets and add the appropriate marks to each meet, making sure you get the years correct. (Add the athletes as needed.  You will need to re-add them for each year)

* At the bottom of the 'Edit Calendar' page you can select prior years.

You can see an example of how New Hope Christian did it here.  Scroll down on the homepage and you'll see all the 'Stats' meets that David Bowdoin added the records to.   Also note the School Records link at the top, which we will add for you if you contact us.

Q: How do I manually enter results for my athletes?

  1. Click “Enter Meet Results” from the above Coaches Tools
  2. Select the meet* and “Boys or Girls” from the drop-down menus near the top of the page.
  3. Select an event to enter results.

  2. Click OK, OK, then save to a location on your computer.  Hit “OK”.
  3. Log on to Athletic.net and select “Meet Registration” from Coaches Tools.
  4. Under “Manage a Home Meet”, select the meet.
  5. Under “Post-Meet Results”, click “Upload Meet File”.
  6. Click “Browse” to find the saved HyTek file, check FAT or HT, and hit “Process File”.
  7. Results from each school will automatically be uploaded onto the website.

Or follow the directions here to export the file from HyTek, then follow the rest of the directions above.

Q: I work for a newspaper and could use some custom result pages, can you do that?

Yes! Please contact us using the feedback form, and let us know what schools you would like in the report. Chances are if you need the report, other users would benefit from it also.

Q: I work for a newspaper, can I use the results found here?

Yes, you may use the results, and we would be glad to assist you by providing a format that you can easily copy. We would appreciate acknowledgment of www.Athletic.net as the source.

Q: What happens if an athlete’s name/result has a typo when their results are uploaded/entered?

As long as the athlete’s name has the same spelling, it will work just fine. Ideally, since each athlete’s name should only get entered into the website once at the beginning of the season, this situation should be avoidable. Coaches may correct spelling using the athlete editor. If an athlete is entered more than once, let us know and we can merge the statistics.

Q: What happens if I make a mistake while entering the calendar/athletes/registration/results?

Often you can delete the entry that is in error and try again. If you come across an error you cannot solve yourself, please contact us using the feedback form with the problem, and we will help you fix it.

Q: What happens if Hy-Tek results are uploaded, after a coach has already manually entered some results?

The older results will be removed, and the new results will be entered. The Hy-Tek import is considered official results, and takes higher priority over manually entered statistics.

Q: What happens if results are uploaded for schools/athletes that are not signed up with Athletic.net?

Unfortunately, they will be discarded, as the website cannot attest to their accuracy. Allowing possibly duplicated data into the database can cause major issues. Therefore, if you plan on uploading results after the meet, we strongly encourage host schools to require online meet registration.

Q: What is FAT and HT? How are they calculated, and what are the significances of them?

Please see our discussion on the use of FAT and Hand Times on Athletic.net.

Q: Can only official coaches enter meet/athlete results?

The site has many helpful tools for coaches, so I like coaches to be aware of the site and to use it, but I have no problem with an assistant, parent, or careful athlete entering the teams results, as long as the coach is OK with it.

General

Q: Why are my marks not posted on the website? (or incorrect?)

If you are an athlete and don't see your marks, maybe you could talk to your coach(es) and let them know how you enjoy seeing your teams results on the site.

Q: Are you going to expand to other sports? (basketball, baseball, etc)

At this time we are not planning on moving to additional sports. We want to be the best at Track and Field, and there are still a lot of features that we would like to make available to coaches.

Q: What are the 'c' and 'a' found after some marks there for?

They are there to denote that the mark has been converted, or was a FAT time.  Please see our discussion on the use of FAT and Hand Times on Athletic.net for further information about this process.

Q: For privacy concerns, I need an athlete removed from Athletic.net, can you do that?

Please contact us using the feedback form.

Q: How do I set Athletic.net to be my homepage?

In Internet Explorer, got to the Tools menu->Internet Options->General Tab. In the address box, type http://www.athletic.net, and hit OK.

Q: How much time and effort have you put into Athletic.net?

A lot. Enough that I had to bring on another assistant to help gather school data.

Q: I have a suggestion to make Athletic.net better, who do I contact?

We value all feedback. Please contact us using the feedback form.

Q: I see a mistake in the school layout on Athletic.net, who do I contact?

Thank you! While we try our best to have accurate school listings, we often don’t have the best data to work with. Please contact us using the contact form if you see a problem with the school layout.

Q: I would like to help get more states/schools listed with you, can I help?

We are currently working hard to add support for more states and the schools within them. However, we are having trouble finding school information for some states. If you would like to help in this area, please contact us using the feedback form, and will get back to you and let you know what information we could use from you.

Q: My region is listed on the website, but my school is not, what can I do to get it listed?

We make every effort to have correct school data listed on the website. However, sometimes the sources we use do not list all the schools as they should. If your school is not listed in an area we support, please contact us using the feedback form and we will get back to you promptly.

Q: What are cookies?

Cookies allow the site to remember when a user has signed onto the site, and grant them the additional access that they desire. If you have software on your computer blocking cookies, you will not be able to successfully sign on as a coach.

Q: What is FAT and HT? How are they calculated, and what are the significances of them?

Please see our discussion on the use of FAT and Hand Times on Athletic.net.

Q: Why are there advertisements on Athletic.net?

Athletic.net currently uses Google Adwords to display advertisements.  These ads are content driven, so you should only see ads relative to Cross Country and Track & Field.  There are NO pop-up ads on Athletic.net, nor will there ever be.

The advertisements on Athletic.net are here to help offset server costs. Server costs alone were upwards of $1000 a year with just Oregon being supported. Now that we support most of the West Coast, we have had to move to a dedicated offsite server, with a cost of roughly $300 month.
