Welcome to Athletic.net!

Background

Athletic.net was created by a coach to ease common coaching tasks.  Released in Oregon in 2004, it was used by 85% of the high schools after its first season.  The site then expanded to include Cross Country, and opened up to the rest of the states and now beyond!  Click here for a feature list.

This site is designed to be as intuitive as possible, however, it can be nice knowing ahead of time what this site can do for you and your team.  This page gives a brief overview of the site and some basic steps to follow as you start to use the site.

What the site does

On this website, you will find a section for every school where coaches can:

  • Post the Season Calendar
  • Post Meet results, which automatically fills in: Season PR's (Personal Records) and Athlete Statistics
  • Easily register athletes for meets
  • Gather meet entries online for meets you host (FREE!)
As the season progresses, you will be able to compare statistics that have been posted for your:
  • Athletes
  • School
  • District
  • Division (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, etc)
  • State
  • All the States & Regions on the site

By keeping the stats for your school up to date, your athletes have easy access to their own statistics, and you enable your district to have a current best marks list.

Ok, I am ready to start.  What do I do?

Now that you've read what Athletic.net can do, here's how to start using this FREE resource:

  1. Locate your school on the site and sign up for your free coach account.  This account will be used by you to enter results, to register for meets, and even host meets.  Assistants or computer savvy athletes can sign up to help enter results... if they have your permission!
  2. Activate your account by following the directions in the email you receive.
  3. Log In and go to your school homepage.  There will be a direct link to your school on the left side of the Athletic.net homepage.
  4. Enter your calendar.  From your school homepage, click 'Edit Calendar' on the 'Coach Tools' bar near the top of the page.  You will need to match your meets to meets currently on the site.  You can choose meets currently online or add new meets if no one has created them yet.
  5. You can now enter meet results, or create meet registrations for meets on your calendar.
  6. If you've already had meets, you can enter those results using the 'Enter Meet Results' page.  Select the gender and meet at the top of the page, then select the event you want to enter results for.  Be sure to read the tips at the bottom of the page to speed up result entering.

Now, the real fun begins!  Athletic.net generates top performance lists for your school, league, state, and all the states using the site!  In addition to this, athlete PRs are tracked automatically, with their best performances tracked on their own pages.  Check out this feedback from one user:

I realize I sound like a broken record touting this service but it's something special. The season is just now getting underway and 45% of San San Diego schools have registered. There are now enough marks entered to give you an idea of the depth of reporting options. For example, you can look at marks for just your league by grade level and gender. Click on any athlete in the marks and see ALL his results in all his events, expand or contract the number of marks shown, concentrate on one event, and instantly switch between all reports. You can't beat the price (free) and the record keeping time it'll save you is priceless. - George Green - San Diego Track Magazine founder

There are also other exciting features on Athletic.net.  These include meet registration and meet hosting features.  Once your calendar and athlete roster have been entered on the site, you can use these features to make entering and running meets a snap.

Meet Registration

For Track & Field, go to 'Meet Registration' on the coach toolbar.  Select the meet from the column on the right that you want to make entries for.  From this page, you can select the events individually and register athletes.  You can also select each athlete and choose which events they will compete in.  If you have been entering results to the site, the best mark for the athlete is automatically added as a seed mark.  You also have the option of entering an override seed mark.

For Cross Country, click on the meet name on your season calendar.  On the meet page, click 'Register Athletes' under 'Team Tools' on the right.  Select the division for each athlete, and then click 'Save Registrations.'

Once your entries are done, you have a couple options.  You may view a b>pprintable/faxable page with all entries organized by event or by athlete to use for your own purposes, or to fax to the host school.  The other option is to let the host school get the entries online if they are using Athletic.net.

Meet Hosting

When you host a meet using Athletic.net, any school that makes entries online for your meet will be available to you to view and download online.  We offer our own free meet management solutions, as well as downloads for other meet managers.  This ability to download entries saves coaches hours, if not days!

Results Uploading

After the meet, you can export a file with results and upload it to the site.  This eliminates the need for each coach to enter results manually.

Note: The import will only reliably process results for entries that were created online and imported from the downloaded file.  Your success will vary if you try to upload a meet with entries that did not come from Athletic.net.  In the worst case scenario, you will have to manually enter results to the site for athletes added manually to the meet.

Other stuff to note

  • Virtually everything can be fixed if you make a mistake.  Results can be corrected, calendars and athletes can be edited, etc.
  • All results are posted by coaches and assistants.  If you notice some results are missing or wrong, chances are the coach/assistant either hasn't entered them yet, or made a mistake.  In the case of a mistake, they can return to the site and correct it.
  • Start by looking around the Oregon page. It has been online the longest and shows what the site can do the best.

Above all, thanks for using Athletic.net!
