I. AWARDS
A. Medals for the first six places.
B. Trophies will be awarded to the meet champion, first runner-up, and second runner-up by the Observer Newspaper at the conclusion of the meet.
II. FIELD EVENT INFORMATION
A. HIGH JUMP
1. OPEN ORDER JUMPING--each jumper is responsible for getting his jumps in at any given height.
2. We will try to make a P.A. announcement each time the bar is to be raised, but don’t rely on it! Once the bar is raised, it can’t be lowered.
3. Places will be determined by the total combined height of the 3 jumpers of each team.
4. In case of a tie, the tie will be broken on the basis of misses by the team. If a tie still remains, the points will be divided among the teams involved.
5. The high jump will start at 5’0’’ and then progress 2 inches thereafter.
B. POLE VAULT (Will start promptly at 2:30 p.m.)
1. Runway-Elevated wood runway with rubber apron-located in In the middle of the infield.
2. All vaulters will be seeded and we will use the FIVE ALIVE procedure for vaulting.
3. The starting height is 8 feet and the bar will be moved to 9 feet. The third height will be 9’6’’ and then the bar will be raised 6 inches thereafter.
4. We will have enough helpers so the vaulters will only need to call out the placement number for the standard adjustment.
5. The two minute rule will be enforced for all vaulters.
C. DISCUS & SHOT PUT
1. The team will start and finish in either the discus or shot before they go to other event.
2. Two flights in each event--two trials for each thrower when his name is called. Flights will be set up alphabetically by school.
3. The first alphabetical half of schools entered will throw discus first. All other teams will throw the shot first.
4. A tie will be broken by comparing the total of the second throws of the schools involved.
D. LONG JUMP
1. The long jump will be open order. There will be a designated time for completion of three jumps.
2. Fouls will not be measured.
3. Ties will be broken by the second best total of the second jumps of the three jumpers.
4. Marks will not be allowed on the runway--place markers in the grass along the runway.
III. GENERAL INFORMATION
A. Only 1/8 inch spikes will be allowed on the runways and track. Spikes will be checked at the event when you are checking in--be sure you have the proper size.
B. High jumpers may place a chalk mark on the jump apron, please remove it when you are finished jumping. Marks for the long jump and pole vault should be placed off the runway surface.
C. DO NOT BRING STARTING BLOCKS. Blocks will be furnished.
D. During the running events in the evening, we ask that all coaches and non-competing runners (not working the meet) remain in the stands or outside the track fence. There should be no coaches on the infield.
E. Teams may set up camp on the West or South end of the track.
F. All warm-ups for the running events must be done in the north chute (and on the infield). The bullpen will also be there.
G. Relay cards must be turned into the bullpen when the runners report following the call for that event.
H. Coaches pick up packets at the ticket booth and leave the names of coaches reporting at a later time. Male athletes must be dressed in full uniform to be granted entrance.
I. Gates will be open at 2:00 pm.
J. THE UNIFORM RULE WILL BE ENFORCED IN ALL EVENTS. BE SURE YOUR ATHLETES UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THIS RULE. ALSO, THE JEWELRY RULE WILL ALSO BE ENFORCED (only medical alert tags, wedding bands are allowed).
