Welcome
to the
Morton Track Invitational
May 8, 2009
Updated 5/4/09
Our venue: We have a two year old Atlas track. All running surfaces (approaches as well) are all weather. Spikes will be limited to 1/4". There is a plan to have a concession area (still working on it). Currently there are not a lot of areas to set up tents, but the south end of the football field will be open for athletes to make a team camp. The javelin will be thrown in the adjacent baseball outfield. The approach for the javelin will be in grass. For spectators...its free, but for us to keep improving our facility (like get enough hurdles) we'll have a $1 donation box at the gate. There will be programs as well.
Seating: Seating is limited since we have no grandstand. But we should have some portable bleachers. BYOLC... Bring Your Own Lawn Chair
Special Events: Morton is planning on recognizing their seniors and we welcome you to honor your seniors as well. This will happen at 5:00. There will be two special non-scoring events. There will be a Distance Medley Relay (400,1600, 800, 1200)that will begin at 5:15. You may run it as a coed or all male/female event (your choosing). Every participant will get a prize afterwards. There will also be a thrower's relay (on athletic.net it is the "sprint medley". The clarification for this is that the throwers must be in two throwing events (on a normal meet basis, not necessarily at our meet because we're limiting entrys) and no sprinting events (100,200,400, hurdles, or 400 relay). The winning teams are awarded a large pizza. If there is no girls/boys team, the winners get both pizza's, no teams at all... coaches get the pizza's.
Field Events: Field events will begin at 5:00. Throwing and Jumping events will be open pit, shot put may possibly have two areas (depends on help #'s). I would prefer 3 throws and out, just to keep things moving, but we'll see how many people register. There will be no finals. Girls pole vault and boy high jump will be first.
Running events: Running events will start at 6:00.
Timing: All timing will be FAT.
Scoring: All varsity runners will be scored for the meet. There will be a meet champion (combined girls and boys scores). The trophy is an edible, 6' Subway Sandwich.
Awards: The top three placers in each scoring event will be awarded ribbons. There will be a Top Male and Top Female athlete voted on by the head coaches present from each team during the mile relay.
There are several unfinished area around our venue, we ask that your athletes stay out/off them (most of it is mud).
