Way to Go Guys!!
Congratulations to the 5 individuals representing Galesburg Track and Field in 5 different events next week at BIG BLUE! Austin Andrews got us started out on the right foot in the High Jump in grabbing 2nd place with a personal best of 6'1". He was very focused on the task at hand which made all the difference. We had a lull from the first part of the meet to the middle then BAM...we were on a roll. This was sparked by the effort by none other than "The Wildman" Craig Hall in the 300 Hurdles. He ran a jaw dropping 39.34 against a stellar field. This was the best race I have ever seen the young man run and pretty much changed the course of the meet for us. Craig needed a roommate, so Josh Bailey thought he better get movin! Did he do it instyle...YES!! He breaks the 30 year old school record set by Larry Haynes in 1977 at 4:23.7. Josh ran a 4:22.97 (FAT) which converts to 4:22.8. This is a huge accomplishment considering the Matt Bells, Keith Vanermuelens, Jon Leegards, and Tom Tates could not break this record. Let's try some jumpin!! Andrew, Andrew, Andrew...the man was simply lights out on Friday night! BOOM, he hits a 45' 5.5" right off the bat and hits 2 more over 45. It was just an outstanding performance by a true team player as he sacrificed his last 3 jumps to help his teammates to try and qualify in the 4x400. Only 3 inches from the school record...watch closely as I think it will be his in Charleston! Hats off to you Mr. Thierry. Last but not least, Cody saved his best for last. Battling a cold/flu, he "TURNS IT UP" to qualify in his very last event to make it to EIU one more time. His extra push in the last 20 meters put him over the top and on his way.
We have a young team still coming back that shows some promise out of our Freshman and Sophmores in Kevin Mitchell, Wes Anderson, Greg Whittle, Gabe Moreno, Luke Junk, Josh Thomas, and Diego Moore. As Andrew told you...YOU are the future of Silver Streaks Track and Field.
Way to Go Gentlemen,
