Landon School, an independent, non-sectarian boys' day school, prepares talented boys for productive lives as accomplished, responsible and caring men whose actions are guided by the principles of perseverance, teamwork, honor and fair play.
Landon School began in 1929 in a converted mansion in the heart of Washington, D.C.'s embassy row. Nearly eight decades later, founder Paul Landon Banfield's long-held belief of the importance of challenging academics, daily arts and athletics, and strong values is both respected and refined as we've entered the 21st century.
Ultimately, the success of a comprehensive education lies in the hands of our inspirational mix of teachers, young and old. Fiercely committed to teaching and to Landon School - the average experience at the school is currently 18 years - our teachers serve as role models for boys both inside the classroom and on the playing fields. We make the proud distinction that Landon teachers also coach. So whether overseeing extra-curricular activities, eating lunch together, offering a guiding hand or lending a ready ear as teacher-advisors starting in Grade 6, Landon teachers truly know their students.
It is precisely this bond that helps our faculty - in partnership with parents - gently move every boy's initial dependence on family and teachers toward a self-reliance that coincides with his level of maturity.
