We have a quality program because of the dedication by our athletes, coaches, and the support of our parents, and administration.
Team: Track and Field is a TEAM sport. We encourage all athletes to participate and support each other throughout the meet from the first event to the last.
Practice: We have an excellent coaching staff and we want to see every athlete reach their highest potential. Being at practice every day is key. In order to compete in a meet it is obviously necessary to be at practice.
Communication: Communication solves many problems, from injuries to missed practices. Knowing what is going on is key.
Transportation: When we travel to a meet, this will be done through school transportation. When the meet is over (we want all team members to be there to the end) parents can take their athlete home with them. We simply need everyone, to communicate and follow the legal procedures for doing this.
Team Meetings: These are necessary for us to inform all athletes of important information: when the bus leaves; time schedules; when excused from class; etc. All athletes need to attend.
Team Sweats and Gear: All school gear checked out must be worn, taken care of and returned. We have a lot of money invested in very nice equipment, pride comes into play again, take care of your equipment. Also, the national track rulebook covers what can and can’t be worn and this must be followed to participate. All athletes need to supply their own black shorts. THEY MUST BE BLACK. Good shoes are very important and warm/dry practice clothing is essential.
Athletic Trainer: Defer to trainer. Communicate.
Varsity Letter: All athletes that compete in the District Track Meet will letter. All athletes that accumulate 10 varsity points in meets throughout the season will letter. Dual Meets score 5-3-1 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Invitational’s score 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. Also, athletes may letter by meeting the district standard available on our website.
Spring Vacation: Practice is encouraged but not required. Each event coach will notify their athletes when practice will be held, usually involves only 3 of the 5 days.
Clearance and Eligibility: THS procedures and rules apply. Eligibility is dealt with by the Administration. Students need to take care of business in the classroom. Although we will excuse athletes to compete in meets, each athlete is responsible for arranging with their teachers to make up assignments. Good students make arrangements before leaving.
State Track Meet: MOST IMPORTANT - Parent help during the 2-day State Meet. This is our only big fundraiser, and our continued participation depends on help from a number of parents, and athletes.
