Competing since the early 1990s, the Mustangs have established the elite standard for TAPPS Track & Field.  The Mustangs compete in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial School Schools (TAPPS) 4A classification, which is comparable to 2A/3A UIL Schools.  The Mustangs have friendly rivalries with UIL State programs Monahans and Abilene Wylie.

Since 1996, the Mustangs have produced 35 individual State Champions and 12 Relay State Championships.  This includes the 2001 Gold Medalist in the 300 Hurdles, Angie Berryhill (now Aquilar), which later became the NCAA Div. II National Champion in the Women's Pole Vault, while competing for Abilene Christian University, Nathan Lee (2nd at State in the 1600m, 2006) who competes at Lubbock Christian University on the Cross Country Team and Tucker Schneeman (07 & 08 State Champion in the 300H) who runs for the Texas Tech Red Raiders (http://texastech.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/schneeman_tucker00.html)

This long line of success includes District Championships (1996, 2003, 2007), 2 Regional Championships (2007 & 2008) and 4 State Championships (1996, 2003, 2007 & 2008).  The Mustangs finished as the Runner up at the State Meet in 2002 and 2006,   The Lady Mustangs finished 3rd at the State Meet in 2003.   The Mustangs won both State Titles in 2003 and in 2007 by more than 50 points over the runner up team and in 2008 by 36 points.   The Mustangs have captured 3 of the last 7 State Championships since Head Coach Chris McKinney took over the program in 2003.

The Mustangs compete in TAPPS 4A, District 1, which has become the elite district in TAPPS 4A Track & Field, boasting such State Powers as Argyle Liberty Christian and Arlington Grace Prep.  District 1 has landed every State Championship trophy since 1997, with the exception of 2002 (Houston Lutheran South).  To compete and win in this district is quite an accomplishment. 

The Mustangs compete in elite Track and Field Events throughout the State including the Texas Tech Indoor Invitational in Lubbock, the West Texas Relays in Odessa (2008 Team Champions, Boys), the Bluebonnet Relays in Brownwood (2007 Team Champions, Boys), and the Texas Relays in Austin (2008 4x200 and 4x400 Champions).  The Mustangs hold 2 meet records in Odessa (4x200 Relay-2007 and Jay Cunningham, 200m Dash-2006-22.00).  The Mustangs also hold 2 TAPPS State Records. (Andrew Hufford - 1A Triple Jump - 1996 - 44' 9", Tucker Schneeman - 5A - 300 Hurdles - 2008 - 38.90) and pulled a rare Triple Crown in 2008 by winning all 3 Relays at the State Track Meet. 

Congratulations to Hannah Thompson, Jessica Smitherman and Kevin Gosch.  Hannah was the silver Medalist at the State Track Meet in the Discus throw while Jessica captured the Bronze.  Kevin won the Bronze medal in the Boys Discus Throw

The Mustangs are coached by Head Coach Chris McKinney and Head Girls Coach D'Nese Fowler.  Assistant coaches are Christi Bates (Relays, Jumps), Tony Goyang (Distance Runners, Jumps), Bill Jordan (Hurdles), Van Pearcy (Jumps) Scottye Ratliff (Pole Vault), Jim Smitherman (Discus and Shotput), Cory Aguilar (Pole Vault), Angie Aguilar (Pole Vault), Calvin Knighten (Hurldes/Sprints),  Kenneth Smith (JH Head Coach) and Laura Reeger-North(JH Head Coach).
