Spartan Classic – Track and Field Championship

Site: Michigan State University – Ralph Young Track (next to Spartan Stadium)
Time (estimate): 3:00 pm Prelims 4:20 pm 3200 Relay 4:50 pm Semis 5:30 pm Finals
2011 Teams: Bay City Western, Corunna, DeWitt (girls), Grand Ledge, Grosse Point South, Hartland, Haslett, Holt, Lansing Catholic, Linden, Okemos, Rockford, Traverse City Central, Williamston
Admission: $5.00 – Pre-school free.
T-Shirts: Meet t-shirts will be available for purchase at the competition for $15.
Awards: The top two male and female teams will receive a team award. The top 6 individuals and relay teams in each event will receive awards.
Pole Vault: Two pole vaulters from each will be able to participate in the Spartan Classic
Scoring: Standard Track and Field Championship meet scoring will be used for the Spartan Classic. The top 8 athletes in each event will score points in a 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, format. FAT timing will be used for all races.
Events: High Jump / Pole Vault: will be run in a championship meet style format. (5 Alive)
Long Jump will be a 1 hour open pit with three (3) jumps, the top 9 athletes will advance to the finals with 3 additional jumps being awarded!
Shot Put/ Discus will be run in three flights with each athlete receiving three throws. The top 9 athletes will receive an additional 3 throws in the championship flight.
Running Events Prelims and Semi Finals will be run in the 100 meter dash, 100/110 high hurdles, and the 200 meter dash. All additional running events will be timed finals. (Given full complement of heats in sprints)
Prelim to Semi Finals Qualifying = Top 2 in each of 5 boys or 6 girls heats plus next (6 boys/4 girls) fastest time.
Semi Finals to Finals Qualifying = Top 4 in each of the 2 semi final heats.
Parking: Spectators and coaches driving can park in lot 79 south of Spartan Stadium. There is an $.80/hour charge to park here but the gates will open at 8:00pm allowing for a free exit.
Water: Please bring water for your team’s use. There will be bottle water for sale by MSU Concessions along with the Athletic Trainer having a small amount of water for those in dire need.
