O kolo sets State 400m Record, 4x400m Repeats at State Meet!
Senior Courtney Okolo capp ed off an outstanding NSHS career by leading the Lady Trojans to a third place overall finish at the UIL 4A State Meet. Courtney won gold in the 400m, setting a new overall and 4A Texas State Record with a time of 52.40. She also won gold in the 200m, and then anchored the 1600m Relay to a come from behind win. Courtney finishes her NSHS career with 6 UIL State Gold Medals and one Bronze Medal. She also holds individual school records in the 400m and 200m, and is a member of the school record 1600m and 400m relay teams. The 1600m Relay team, comprised of Timeka Sandifer, Mia James, Adrianna DeLaRue, and Courtney Okolo, not only brought home gold, but also broke the school record by two seconds. Okolo, Girls 4x400m Relay Advance to State Again!
Congratulations to all of our athletes on your performances at Regionals. All but two events advanced from the prelims on Friday into the finals on Saturday. Courtney Okolo won both the 400m (Meet Record of 53.69) and 200m, and will advance to the State Meet on Friday, May 11 at The University of Texas in Austin. Additionally, the girls 4x400m Relay finished in 2nd place and will advance to the State Meet. Finalists at the Regional Meet were:
Boys 4x100m Relay - 7th place
Boys 4x200m Relay - 7th place
Boys 4x400m Relay - 5th place
Girls 4x400m Relay - 2nd place, State Qualifier

NSHS Boys Track & Field Win 2012 District 9-4A Championship!
Congratulations boys on bringing home Newman Smith's first ever Varsity Boys District Track & Field Championship. NSHS captured the title by winning 5 individual events and all 3 relays, and outscored the second place team by 30 points. The team will compete at the UIL Region 2-4A Championships at the University of Texas Arlington on April 27 - 28.
