Track & Field can be so frustrating for most people due to the weather, the length of meets, the lack of keeping score or knowing what is going on at meets, and the frustration of dealing with a large team. We take a TEAM approach to the sport so I want to thank each of you for your strong support of our TEAM! Our CV Parents are the heart and soul of our team success and I greatly appreciate all you do.
The CV Boys Track & Field Awards Night will be held on Tuesday May 21 in the CVHS Commons starting at 6:00 pm. I have asked each athlete to attend so we can properly recognize them, shake their hand and celebrate our season of success one last time before we head off to the State Meet.
Uniforms are to be turned in on Wednesday May 15 starting at 2:15 pm in Coach Bowden’s room – P 102. PLEASE DO NOT DROP THE UNIFORM OFF IN THE OFFICE!!!!! This makes for a nightmare of a collection process and I cannot guarantee that I will receive it. My records are very accurate as to what was checked out to each athlete so please be aware that if your son tells you that it was my mistake, he is wrong. I don’t mean to sound harsh but if you saw the pile of clothing in the lost and found at our school, you would understand why I made that last statement. I do work with all the boys to find missing uniforms but I cannot guarantee success. Missing and lost uniforms cost us anywhere from $300.00 or more each year, money we don’t have. If your son receives a fine, have him come talk to me face to face if needed.
We have a Summer Track & Field Club – VALLEY ATHLETICS CLUB. For those of you that have been involved with club soccer, club volleyball, AAU basketball, etc……. this is not the same. Basically, we started this club so that CV athletes would have additional practices after the season. We are a USATF sanctioned club so we prepare any of our athletes that are interested in competing in the USATF Junior Olympic Meets. There are only three and participation in them is up to the athlete and his parents.
Inland Northwest Junior Olympic Championship Meet – CVHS (Friday June 21 & Saturday June 22) – Top 5 qualify for Region 13 Meet
Region 13 Junior Olympic Championship Meet – Seattle (early July – TBA) – Top 3 qualify for National Championship
USATF Junior Olympic National Championship Meet – North Carolina (End of July – TBA)
Attendance is not required and we don’t chase you down. We charge a registration fee of $100.00 for each athlete. The CV Coaches that participate do not get paid (they volunteer). We do hire 1-3 former CV athletes who are in college to help coach. We have two levels in our club:
Level 1 – Kindergarten to 5th Grade
Level 2 – 6th Grade to 12th Grade
If your son is interested in joining our club, please join them at our Parent/Athlete meeting at CVHS on Tuesday May 28 in Coach Bowden’s Portable (P 102 – the portable rooms behind the gymnasium). They can pick up a flyer when they turn in their uniform on Wednesday May 15. Each athlete must join USATF and pay the $20.00 membership fee (this is not included in our club fee). Our Club – VAC – will be hosting the 2013 Inland Northwest Junior Olympic Championship Meet on Friday June 21 and Saturday June 22 so it will be a home meet for our CV kids.
This is not a high pressured pitch to get you to sign up for our club. We offer this so CV kids have an opportunity to compete in track like they have opportunities in all the other sports. Participation is not required!
I will be sending out some additional information later this week. Again, thank you for your generous support during the 2013 season! I hope to see everyone at the Awards Night on Tuesday May 21.
Take care!
Coach Bowden
