 Welcome to the 34th Annual Viking Opener Cross Country Invitational and the 32nd Annual Viking Opener Alumni Race. Below you will find some general information pertaining to this year’s event.

 

 

 Host:                   Montgomery High School

 

 

 Date:                   Saturday, September 15, 2018. First race starts at 8:35 a.m. 

 

 

 Site:                    Spring Lake Regional Park, Santa Rosa (All coaches, athletes and parents are required to pay a $7 parking fee at all park entrances or may enter for free with a Regional Parks Pass)

 

 

 Course:              All divisions, 2.0 miles, rolling hills on dirt trails and paved bike paths.

 

 

 Scoring:             All grade-level races, the top 3 finishers for each team make up the team score, 4^th and 5^th runners displace. Athletes may not “race-up” a division (ex. No Freshmen in the Junior race). Incomplete teams will be scratched from   team scoring but those individuals will be eligible for awards.

 

 Alumni Race:   Team scoring as above. All runners teamed according to high school they attended or high school region (i.e. those from the same county, region, etc.). Timing:             Chip timing will be provided by Ford Timing. Ford Timing is a Bay Area-based timing company.

 

 

 Amenities:         Snack bar, athletic taping, custom event t-shirts and sportswear for sale.

 

 

 Entry Fees:         High School:  $175 per school, or $20 per entry – whichever is less                                           High School Alumni:  $10 per entry if register online, $15 race day (Register online in advance)     Coaches: Free! (Register online in advance)                                                                                             Junior High:  The junior high portion of the Viking Opener Invitational is no longer available  due to new 2018-19 enforcements of NCS/CIF rules regarding junior high participation in high school invitationals. Please e-mail montgomeryvikingsxc@gmail.com for more information regarding this and a new junior high only Spartan Invitational hosted by a local middle school planned for Friday, Sept. 14, at 3:30 p.m. on the Viking Opener course. 

 

Registration: Registration will take place on Athletic.net. You will need to create an Athletic.net coach account for your team if you do not have one already. Entries will be open by Sunday, August 12, 2018, and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Entry fees must be received by Sunday, September 9, 2018, to be guaranteed entry into the event. Awards:

 

TEAM: Ribbons to each team member (max 5) on 1^st thru 4^th place teams in grade-level and open races.

INDIVIDUAL: Medals to top 10 finishers & ribbons to finishers 11^th through 20^th in each division.
